Jakfruit is an interesting and unique plant-based alternative to meat on the Polish market. It is the tropical fruit of the jackfruit tree. It grows mainly in Asia and in Europe it is gaining popularity among people wishing to limit their meat consumption, but mainly among vegetarians and vegans.
Young, green yakfruit is quite neutral in flavour and, when properly prepared, its texture and appearance is reminiscent of meat. Thanks to its texture, it also easily absorbs the flavours of spices and herbs. It has many uses in the kitchen. It can be braised, fried and seasoned in exactly the same way as any meat meal. All the spices of Indian, Mexican, Asian and American cuisine go well with it. It can be used not only to prepare veggie burgers, but also chops, fries, curry dishes and many other original dishes.
